Elizabeth Ralph, Harold G. Brown & Paul Redmayne, English City: the growth and future of Bristol (University of London Press, Jan. 1945)
Book published by J. S. Fry & Sons Ltd. (a Bristol-based confectionary manufacturer) at the end of World War II. The intent was to record the city's history, examine the impact of the Bristol Blitz and to lay out Bristol's hopes and plans for the rebuilding of the city. No author is credited on the title page, but the foreword notes the three people who researched, wrote and illustrated the book were: Elizabeth Ralph (City Archivist), Harold G. Brown and Paul Redmayne. The publication was a semi-public venture in that it was overseen by a committee of the City Education Department.
